Current music:Coven - 'Blue Blue Ships'

Let's get this ball rolling...
OK, the survey results of the 'where should we play our 100th show' poll are in. Of the twenty some odd folks that responded:

31% favored the House of Blues Parish
37% favored One Eyed Jacks club
25% favored the Howlin' Wolf
and 6% actually wanted us to perform at the Republic.

Interestingly, 18% also requested specifically that we NOT perform at the Houes of Blues Parish! Guess there's something to be said for sticking up for locally owned clubs. However, One Eyed Jacks hasn't answered my booking requests via email or phone in three weeks, and House of Blues has been very forthcoming in answering all my questions directly and offering good terms for a booking. So unless somebody hooks us up with One Eyed Jacks RIGHT away, it looks like it's gonna be House of Blues Parish on the 20th of September (which is far enough away that we can actively promote it. And after that it'll be House of Shock time!

Why not by pass both and do Howlin' Wolf? Then it's not HOB, but atleast it's some place local.

Welllll, the Wolf was a great place for a number of years, but they kind of made themselves locata non grata last spring. Which was a pity, because I liked the place... but we had a hard time getting people to show up there.

Odds are on HOB at the moment, and it's been a while since we performed there, so...

My disdain for HOB actually has less to do with the fact that they're a chain, and more to do with their staff/business practices.

To know 'em is to loathe 'em, eh? (Ditto for the 'Wolf...)

Whenever I have to do a day-of-show promotion for the Syndicate and they list HOB, I always cringe.

The Syndicate!!! Excellent, another shadowy, evil organization!

Yes, them and their dastardly band promo skills.

Wow, an actual management company. I'd be very interested in talking to someone from such a firm, but the cynic in me says it'd end up the same way.

As 'competent' a front as we like to put on, the C.O.G. has always had to subsist as a DIY organization, ignored and shunned by rock promoters and management. Everybody who has offered to help us has flaked out without booking a SINGLE gig, and no booking agency has EVER returned my phone calls!

That said, I'd love to be proven wrong someday...

I'll forward your information to them. (Like the good little lemming I am.) If you don't get a call, don't worry about it. I have no idea what they do with the information they get.

I deeply appreciate the help... though the cynic in me suspects we're not 'marketable' enough for such a company (mind you, I'd love to battle against one of their other clients, 'We Are Scientists'!)

They host a lot of bands that aren't that well-know, and some who's "managers" I wish would go back into obscurity.

What's your connection to them? (If you care to talk at more length, email me at drpinkerton@consortiumofgenius.com.)

I'm just one of their numerous hordlings who goes to concerts at their behest and promotes whatever band they've handed me that week.

It's for pay, but not much if you consider gas, parking, time, etc. I enjoy it, so I continue to do it. And I haven't had any problems with the company other than them canceling promotions at the last minute.

Fuck. Doesn't matter to me anymore, I'm going to miss it. Thats the day after I leave on a business trip to NYC.

Double damn.

It's also the same weekend as Anime Weekend Atlanta... which I'd like to attend from a financial point of view, but am currently on the waiting list for dealer's booths for.

I might, therefore, be able to attend after all... it'd be damn expensive, though ($80+ for the gas and $50 for the hotel to stay over, plus entry charge), so I'll have to think about it.

And now for something completely different and off-topic -- I found a news report that I think you'll be amused by. You just can't make this stuff up.

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2008/07/28/acosta.air.guitar.cnn

And they mentioned Finland! *slaps head* Doh!

I saw the report on CNN the other night. That's the absolute gayest bullshit I've ever seen. I sincerely hope these morons aren't actually making money doing this or someone seriously needs to be killed.

...I've no problem with HoB, so long as the Curse of the COG still works. That said, the show being at HoB won't keep me from attending. (Checks calender) Cool! The 20th is a Saturday. I can actually make the show without having to request time off.
