Even More work on 'The Power'
...was done last night at the Secret Lab. Sir Roderick of Ory visited the lab, bearing cymbals for sampling (an 8" Zildjian splash and a 14" 'Neal Peart' style hi-hat set.) These were sampled in stereo at several different levels of velocity and pedal tension. Once I get the samples edited, they should be quite a bit more expressive (and spacious) than the old ones, which were made in '97. Incidentally, the previous hi-hat samples were taken from another Rush fanatic's kit; accordingly, they sound exactly the same!
After the sampling session, Roddy stuck around a few hours and helped thicken up the background vocals on the 'Queen' song, 'I Have the Power'. As usual, he came up with some great harmonies that hadn't even occurred to me. The background vocals are now quite rich and thick enough! Only Dr. A's rhythm guitar, and perhaps a guest piano part, remain to be done on that song.
