Survival
Most gigs we have these days are about having fun. Unfortunately some are about merely getting through the night. Last night was more about the latter, unfortunately, though there were some fun moments.
The heart of the problem was a disconnect between the management of the House of Shock and the sound crew - who hadn't been informed that we were performing that night. Consequently, when we arrived, the sound man informed us that there were no monitors, microphones or stands. Another problem was the amount of stage dressing left by the 'Atone Pain Tribe' who were performing Friday and Saturday night, including a huge metal armature taking up literally 1/4 of the space onstage. All that stuff had to be removed first.
I refused to perform without being able to hear our own drums (which are electronic) and offered to go back to my studio and grab the extra truckload of equipment it would take to get the show off the ground, especially if the House could make it worth our while. So I went back to the Secret Lab and grabbed mics, stands, two small sidefills, my JBL Eon powered monitor, and some mic and speaker lines. By the time we had everything set up, it was pretty late, and nothing worked correctly for the first set. But we got through it and enjoyed a better, longer second set for those who stuck around. Lab Girl Trixie got to debut her new solo song, a cover of 'Saturday Night' by the Misfits, which was quite well received (perhaps too well; she admitted to getting creeped out by some jerk hitting on her afterwards.)
Aside from that, things are going fairly swimmingly. I've gotten somewhere on the computer problem (1st solution seems to be working out so far.) Also got parts on order to replace the hard drive of the C.O.G. show computer with a flash memory drive, which will be cool. That'll leave only the Amiga 3000 running off a mechanical hard drive! The House of Shock has gotten a tentative reprieve from the State Fire Marshall. And tomorrow is the 19th anniversary for Jeannine and I (wow!) I plan on celebrating that by taking a day off work and relaxing with her.
